About Matthew

Having been involved in business analysis, software development and sales since 1989 I am now Managing Director of Web Office Systems which I founded in 2002. Prior to this I had been working in the Central London as a freelance programmer, working on some high profile projects ususlly in a lead developer role.

In 2001, my first daughter, Sophie, was born and I found that due to the hours I was working and the commute from Milton Keynes that I never really saw her in the first weeks of her life. At this point I realised that this was not the life I wanted and quit a (really) well paid role with nothing to go to. I spent a few weeks at home with my wife and new baby loving just being a dad. After a while of course my wife, Georgina, started wondering when I was going to get out of her way, so I thought I had better decide what I was going to do. Working from my back bedroom, I decided to create a company to act as an outsourced technical partner for advertising and marketing agencies and Ballinger Media Solutions was born.

Things worked out well and we helped many agencies get some great long term clients and benefitted from the technical work ourselves. Over the years though it became clear that the technical team I had assembled was capable of far greater things. Over the course of 2-3 years we designed and developed a web based office system called My Web Office that we launched in the UK.

In 2007 we re-named the company to Web Office Systems and launched the latest version of our web office system, now called FuseMetrix at a global launch at Lords cricket ground on the 10th October 2007. At this event we released 6 case studies from various different sectors from manufacturing to leisure attractions and my personal favourite, a business case study on Marillions Racket Records. This is the record label set up by rock band Marillion to manage their own business and in recent times has helped other artists also. I have been a big fan of the band since I was a teenager and in 2005 I cold called their management company and told them I thought that there were several areas where we could help them. Over the next few months I was invited to the studios, offices and warehouse and shown the whole operation. As the relationship evolved it became clear that they really liked what we were proposing and we have now implimented new systems for their e-commerce website, back office systems, warehouse and stock management, email marketing and a raft of other areas. It gave me huge personal satisfaction to know that I had helped a group of people whom I had held in such high regard for so many years.
